Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter (PPAC)
Voltage of operation: -550 Volt
Dimensions: Height:
Width:
Location: S1 vault. Remotely controlled by a robotic arm.

The software that controls the PPAC insertion across the beam line is included in the PanelMate component of the NSC control suite (execution shortcut from the desktop of the bNMR account). The configuration file that should be loaded is "S1expA". As soon as the panel is loaded, click on the PPAC button on the left and then IN/OUT on the top right button.

Here is the manual for the care and feeding of the PPAC.

PPAC electronic setup
Typical pulses from the case when the PPAC is exposed to a 228Th-source (activity ### mCi) located 50 cm downstream, are listed below:
  •  Fast pulses from the shaper (UP channel of PPAC).
  •  Fast pulses from the shaper (DOWN channel of PPAC).
  •  Fast pulses from the shaper (LEFT channel of PPAC).
  •  Fast pulses from the shaper (RIGHT channel of PPAC).
  •  Slow pulses from the shaper (UP channel of PPAC).
  •  Slow pulses from the shaper (DOWN channel of PPAC).
  •  Slow pulses from the shaper (LEFT channel of PPAC).
  •  Slow pulses from the shaper (RIGHT channel of PPAC).
  •  Discriminator pulses (UP channel of PPAC).
  •  Discriminator pulses (DOWN channel of PPAC).
  •  Discriminator pulses (LEFT channel of PPAC).
  •  Discriminator pulses (RIGHT channel of PPAC).
  •  FAN IN/FAN OUT pulses (MG) (combined channels).
