Crystal 1_1 This is a typical crystal. The damage to the front face is mostly on the corners and sides, where the crystal looks chewed up.
Crystal 1_2 The filter paper was mostly removed from the sides of the crystal using ethanol and a plastic tool, but you can see that some of it bonded too strongly and would not come off.
Crystal 2_1 This is perhaps the most damaged crystal. The front faces must be flat, so we will have to lap off the entire face of the crystal down to the deepest point of the water damage.
